Church History and American History in One Big Family Trip!

When I was 9 years old, the younger half of the family- Bonnie, Ruth, Carol, Sherri, Tom and I were lucky enough to get to go on a 11 day trip to see LDS Church history sights and American history sights.  We started in Washington D.C. and stopped in Philadelphia, New York, Canada, Ohio, Indiana, and ended in Chicago Illinios to walk through the new Chicago Temple.

We spent a lot of time on a bus listening to Ivan J. Barrett, the tour’s guest lecturer, tell us lots of dates, facts, and stories.  We were up early every morning with our suitcases packed, following a lady with a red umbrella that we named Nina’s Grand – the tour guide.

I loved the whole trip, but here are some moments I remember-

1.  Having a blast with my older siblings

2.  Singing at the Sacred Grove

3.  Niagra Falls

4. World Trade Center

5. Tom

I am thankful for parents that took time to plan and go on trips that inspired, broadened, educated, and bound our family together!

PS – Thanks to Ruth for the terrific scrapbook of the trip that somehow I ended up with!

You were all very lucky to go on that trip together. Somehow I was the cut off for most of the great trips. But thank you so much for the snapshot of Tom’s bikini shorts.

A couple of other memories from that trip: singing way too early in the morning, “manicotti!”, and the best church history stories and story teller ever. I loved that trip! Nice makeup Sherri.
